Avery Dennison sees rise in PS materials demand

First quarter results show an increase in demand, especially in emerging markets such as Asia, Eastern Europe and South America.

Avery Dennison has reported a sales increase of 11 percent in its pressure sensitive materials segment for the first three months of 2010. In its quarterly statement, the company said that the increase reflects “higher sales on an organic basis and the favorable impact of foreign currency translation,” as well as an extra week in the quarter. “On an organic basis, sales grew 8 percent, resulting from higher volume driven by increased demand, partially offset by the negative impact of pricing.”

“On an organic basis,” the report continues, “sales in our roll materials business in the first three months of 2010 increased at a mid-single-digit rate in both Europe and North America, and by a rate greater than 20 percent in emerging markets (Asia, Eastern Europe, South America) compared with the same period last year.”
